Among the deceased were notable figures such as former Major League Baseball (MLB) players Octavio Dotel and Tony Blanco, as well as Monte Cristi provincial governor Nelsy Cruz.

Dotel represented the Dominican Republic national team during his career.

Octavio Dotel, aged 51, had an illustrious 15-year career in MLB, playing for a record 13 teams, including the Houston Astros and the St. Louis Cardinals, with whom he won the World Series in 2011. Tony Blanco, another former MLB player, also tragically lost his life in the collapse. Governor Nelsy Cruz, known for her dedicated public service, was among the prominent political figures who perished.

The Jet Set nightclub, a popular venue established in 1973 and renowned for its live dance music events, was hosting a concert attended by between 500 and 1,000 people when the roof gave way around 12:44 a.m. local time. Eyewitnesses reported that the collapse occurred without warning, leading to chaos and a frantic search for survivors.Rescue operations involved approximately 400 personnel who worked tirelessly to locate and assist victims trapped under the debris. Despite their efforts, no additional survivors were found after 3:00 p.m. on the day of the incident.

In response to the catastrophe, President Luis Abinader declared a three-day national period of mourning, with flags flown at half-mast and government activities suspended. The Senate of the Dominican Republic also suspended its sessions to honor the victims. The tragedy prompted an outpouring of condolences from international leaders, celebrities, and sports organizations. MLB Commissioner Robert Manfred expressed sorrow over the loss of Dotel and Blanco, highlighting their contributions to the sport.Teams such as the Houston Astros and the St. Louis Cardinals issued statements mourning the passing of their former player, Octavio Dotel. 

The cause of the structural failure remains under investigation, with authorities examining potential factors that led to the sudden collapse.
