//Netanyahu and Rubio Endorse Trump's Controversial Gaza Plan Amid Global Condemnation//
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has announced that his government is closely coordinating with the United States to implement former President Donald Trump’s controversial plan for Gaza. The proposal, which envisions U.S. ownership of the coastal territory, the forced removal of over 2 million Palestinians, and its transformation into a resort destination, has been met with widespread global condemnation.

Netanyahu made the announcement following a meeting in Jerusalem with U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio, who strongly defended the Trump plan, calling it a "bold and visionary" approach. Both leaders reiterated their shared stance against Iran, blaming Tehran for regional instability and vowing to prevent it from acquiring nuclear weapons.
Trump’s unexpected proposal for what he termed the “Riviera of the Middle East” has drawn accusations of ethnic cleansing, but Netanyahu and Rubio dismissed the criticism, vowing to proceed with the plan. “We discussed Trump’s bold vision for Gaza’s future and will work to ensure that vision becomes a reality,” Netanyahu stated after their meeting, which extended an hour longer than scheduled. He added that while specific details could not be shared with the public, the plan included severe retaliatory measures if Hamas failed to release Israeli hostages.
Rubio echoed this sentiment, describing the initiative as a necessary departure from past diplomatic failures. “It may have shocked and surprised many, but what cannot continue is the same cycle where we repeat over and over again and wind up in the exact same place,” he said. However, neither Netanyahu nor Rubio took questions during the press briefing.
Israeli Finance Minister Bezalel Smotrich openly endorsed the mass removal of Palestinians, expressing hope that the relocation process could begin within weeks. He suggested that continued military operations would force people to leave, stating, “Even if it’s slow at first, it will gradually pick up pace and intensify.” He further emphasized that Gaza would remain uninhabitable for Palestinians for the next 10 to 15 years, citing the total destruction of Jabaliya refugee camp as an example of what lies ahead.
The international community has responded with outrage, with legal experts warning that forced displacement on this scale constitutes a potential crime against humanity. The International Court of Justice (ICJ) is already reviewing allegations of genocide against Israel, and the International Criminal Court (ICC) has issued arrest warrants for Netanyahu and former Israeli Defense Minister Yoav Gallant for alleged war crimes in Gaza. In response, Netanyahu denounced both courts, labeling their actions as “lawfare,” and thanked the Trump administration for imposing sanctions on the ICC. He further hinted at additional joint efforts with the U.S. to counter international legal scrutiny.
Meanwhile, the Israeli government is pushing to alter the terms of the existing Gaza ceasefire agreement, with reports indicating that Netanyahu’s administration, backed by Washington, is seeking to accelerate the release of Israeli hostages. At the same time, political analysts suggest that Netanyahu’s maneuvering is aimed at preserving his coalition government, as the implementation of a second phase in the ceasefire deal could potentially trigger political turmoil and lead to new elections, jeopardizing his position amid an ongoing corruption trial.
Adding to the escalating tensions, a shipment of U.S.-made heavy bombs arrived at Israel’s port of Ashdod on Saturday night. The Biden administration had previously halted the delivery of 2,000-pound MK-84 bombs due to concerns over civilian casualties in densely populated Gaza. However, Trump lifted the ban immediately upon taking office, further solidifying his administration’s staunch support for Israel.
Netanyahu and Rubio also used their joint press conference to focus on Iran, accusing it of being the driving force behind instability in the Middle East. “There can never be a nuclear Iran,” Rubio declared, adding, “Behind every terrorist group, behind every act of violence, behind every destabilizing activity, behind everything that threatens peace and stability for the millions of people who call this region home, is Iran.”
During Trump’s previous administration, Netanyahu unsuccessfully pushed for joint U.S.-Israeli military strikes on Iran’s nuclear facilities. However, the intensified rhetoric from the new U.S. administration has sparked speculation about whether Netanyahu might now succeed in securing direct American military involvement.
The ongoing conflict has taken an immeasurable toll on lives in both Israel and Gaza. With regional tensions at an all-time high and global leaders weighing in on Trump’s unprecedented plan, the world remains divided on how to approach one of the most complex and volatile geopolitical crises of the modern era.
